In the late hours of a Thursday in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, a young man's life was tragically cut short. Twenty-three-year-old Amareya Keshon Freeman, known to many as 'Kool-Aid,' was found unresponsive just before midnight on June 6, 2019, at the intersection of Greenville Road and Mason Street. He had sustained a gunshot wound to his chest. Emergency responders performed CPR at the scene before rushing him to Jennie Stuart Medical Center, but his injuries proved fatal, and he died shortly
after arrival.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led Hopkinsville police to a suspect. Anshanique 'Fish' Leavell, a 19-year-old woman, was arrested in the early morning hours following the incident. At the time of her arrest, Leavell was reportedly in possession of a stolen handgun. During an interview with authorities, she allegedly admitted to shooting Freeman.
Leavell was subsequently charged with murder and receiving stolen property and was booked into the Christian County Jail. The case was later bound over to a grand jury. The motive for the shooting was not immediately made public as the community mourned the loss of the young man from Pat Avenue. His funeral services were held at Virginia Street Baptist Church, with his final resting place at Green Hill Memorial Gardens.
