In the early morning hours of August 11, 2019, in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, a verbal argument inside a vehicle escalated to a fatal conclusion for 25-year-old Terrill Moore. Moore, a male, was a passenger in the car, traveling near the McHenry Street apartments when the dispute with another passenger turned violent. While police were on patrol around 3:40 a.m., they discovered Moore in the passenger seat of a car at Poplar Street and Whitney Place, suffering from a gunshot wound.
He had been shot and killed during the altercation.
The investigation quickly pointed to 18-year-old Robert Earl Torian as the perpetrator. An eyewitness who was present in the vehicle identified Torian as the shooter. According to the account, Torian, who had been sitting in the back seat, exited the vehicle, opened the front passenger door where Moore was seated, and fired the fatal shot. The initial arrest warrant stated Moore was shot in the face, though an autopsy later indicated the wound was to the back of the head. Within hours of the shooting, Torian was located and arrested in Clarksville, Tennessee. Police also found the white Pontiac Trans Am he had been driving.
Following his arrest, Robert Torian was charged with murder. In October 2019, a Christian County Grand Jury returned an indictment for murder against him. The legal process that followed was lengthy, involving two separate trials that both ended in mistrials. Ultimately, Torian pled guilty to an amended charge of second-degree manslaughter. In July 2024, he was sentenced to seven years in prison. At the sentencing, Moore's parents addressed the court, expressing their grief and the need for justice. Torian apologized for his actions, attributing the tragic event to 'street life.' Due to the time he had already served in jail since his 2019 arrest, he was immediately eligible for parole.
