In the late summer evening of August 24, 2021, the community of Hickory, Kentucky, was shaken by a fatal shooting. The life of 28-year-old Darian Williams of Mayfield was tragically cut short on Makenzie Circle. Around 6:35 p.m., dispatchers at Kentucky State Police, Post 1, began receiving calls about gunshots near the local apartment complexes. When troopers and detectives arrived at the scene, they discovered that a shooting had resulted in one fatality. Law enforcement officials believed the shooting to be an isolated incident with no further danger to the public.
An autopsy later confirmed that Darian Williams died from multiple gunshot wounds. Kentucky State Police detectives immediately launched an investigation, canvassing the area for any leads. Their diligent work soon pointed them toward suspects located in neighboring Tennessee. Working extensively with Tennessee authorities, investigators worked to piece together the evidence connecting the suspects to the deadly shooting.
The investigation led to a breakthrough in September. On September 10, 2021, a Graves County Grand Jury returned an indictment for Facilitation to Murder against 32-year-old Alexander James of Nashville, Tennessee. Later that day, investigators with the Kentucky State Police, alongside various Tennessee law enforcement agencies, located James at his Nashville residence where he was arrested. A few days later, on September 14, Kentucky State Police obtained an arrest warrant for a second suspect, 32-year-old Enrique “Dane” Decoursey of Smyrna, Tennessee, on the charge of murder. Intelligence indicated that Decoursey, an over-the-road truck driver, was in eastern Maryland. Law enforcement in Maryland was contacted, and they located and arrested Decoursey near Upper Marlboro. Both men were held awaiting extradition to Kentucky to face the charges related to the death of Darian Williams.
