In the quiet of a late summer evening in Gnesen Township, Minnesota, a tragic accident claimed the life of 50-year-old Daren Eugene Beede. On Sunday, August 23, 2015, at approximately 6 p.m., St. Louis County sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a home just north of Duluth. When they arrived, they found Daren Beede suffering from a gunshot wound. He was able to tell the officers that he had dropped a firearm, and it had accidentally discharged.
The bullet from the. 22-caliber weapon struck him in the lower abdomen. First responders and paramedics rendered aid at the scene, but the injury proved to be fatal, and Beede passed away in his home. The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office investigated the shooting but concluded that no foul play was suspected. His death was determined to be the result of a tragic accident.

He had made many friends throughout his career, which spanned from the foundry to the aircraft industry with companies like Cirrus Aircraft and AAR, and most recently at the Hermantown School District, where he took great pride in his work. He was an active man who enjoyed fishing trips, hunting, and all things related to firearms, from building them to target practice. He loved life and, most of all, adored spending time with his family and friends. He was a devoted husband to his wife Jan, a father to his son Jacob, and a stepfather to two children.
