On a Thursday afternoon in Mankato, Minnesota, the life of 19-year-old Marcus Romaine Cargill Jr. was tragically cut short. On February 15, 2024, Cargill was fatally shot in the downtown area, near the intersection of 4th and Walnut streets. Authorities responded to reports of the shooting around 2:30 p.m. and found Cargill on the ground with gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
