On July 23, 2024, 27-year-old John "Jack" Everette Lutgen-Bernatz was found deceased in an apartment in North Mankato, Minnesota. Authorities responded to a call from a woman seeking assistance at the Village Court Apartments. Upon arrival, they discovered Lutgen-Bernatz's body and arrested 41-year-old Dominic Scott Ellen at the scene. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that Lutgen-Bernatz died from multiple gunshot wounds, ruling his death a homicide.
