On October 28, 2023, in Mankato, Minnesota, 27-year-old Buay Duer Juk was found with multiple gunshot wounds on Balcerzak Drive. Despite immediate medical attention and transport to a local hospital, he was pronounced dead. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed his death as a homicide.
Witnesses reported seeing a man fleeing the scene on foot shortly after the shooting.
The suspect was described as approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall, with a thin build around 160 pounds, wearing dark clothing with the hood up. Authorities have urged anyone with information to contact Mankato Public Safety.
In the wake of the incident, Mankato police requested residents in the vicinity to review any surveillance or doorbell camera footage from the time surrounding the shooting, hoping to gather additional leads. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting in the ongoing investigation.
Buay was born on August 9, 1996, in Omaha, Nebraska, to parents Duer Door Juk and Nyadhok Bichiok Lam. He graduated from Bryan High School in 2015 and was an active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. He is survived by his daughter, Rain Nyadeng Juk, his parents, and several siblings. A visitation and funeral service were held on December 1, 2023, at Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa, followed by burial at Oakland Cemetery.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation remains active. Authorities continue to seek assistance from the public to bring those responsible to justice.
