In the late afternoon of a Tuesday in Minneapolis, the life of 25-year-old Black male, Melvonta Jermaine Jacox, was tragically cut short. On September 29, 2015, just before 4 p.m., Jacox was in the front yard of a residence on the 2600 block of Irving Avenue North when he was shot in the head. The Coon Rapids resident was rushed to North Memorial Medical Center in nearby Robbinsdale for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Jacox succumbed to his injuries
approximately 13 hours after the shooting. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed his identity and the cause of his death. The sudden and violent nature of his passing left his family and community in a state of shock and mourning. He was survived by his mother, Melva Riggins, and his father, Louis Jacox, along with other relatives and friends who remembered him.
In the wake of the shooting, the Minneapolis Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide. However, the case has remained unsolved. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Melvonta Jermaine Jacox, and no suspects have been publicly identified. Authorities have continued to appeal to the public for any information that might lead to a breakthrough in the case and bring closure to his grieving family.
