Jordan Deangelo Washington, a 19-year-old from Minneapolis, MN, was tragically shot on May 17, 2018, outside the Richland Court apartment complex in Richfield. The incident occurred near the intersection of 14th Avenue S. and 77th Street while Washington was sitting in a car. He was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries a few days later.
The shooting was reportedly over allegations that Washington had shortchanged his attackers in a marijuana
deal. Daniel Lamar Johnny Adams, 24, from Minneapolis, was one of the suspects involved. Adams, along with two friends, confronted Washington at the apartment complex with the intention of robbing him. During the confrontation, Adams shot Washington inside the vehicle.
Adams was not arrested until 2022 and later pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison in 2023. Another suspect, Silas McDougal, also 24, received the same punishment in 2021. A third suspect, Tyjahreek Brown, remains at large.
Washington's family, including his mother Christina Day and sister Joël Washington, expressed their grief and the impact of the tragedy during Adams' sentencing. Christina Day mentioned that the last time she saw her son alive was on Mother's Day, just a few days before the shooting. The family has been deeply affected by the loss, with Christina moving to Oregon to escape the painful memories.
