Bernard Drivdahl, aged 62, passed away on September 30, 2019, in Benson, Minnesota. Drivdahl, a convicted felon, was on his way to turn himself in to the Swift County Jail for a warrant related to possession of ammunition. The incident occurred around 8 p.m., approximately two miles east of Benson on Highway 12. Drivdahl was found dead in the passenger seat of a vehicle, having died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He had a handgun in his possession and shot himself while the vehicle was en route to the jail.
The driver of the vehicle, whose identity has not been disclosed, was unaware that Drivdahl had a gun. The driver was taken to the Swift County Benson Hospital for a check-up but was uninjured. The Swift County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Drivdahl died at the scene from his self-inflicted injury.
Drivdahl had been a wanted felon since September 4, 2019, and had previously been released from prison on January 8, 2019. The warrant for his arrest was issued by the Department of Corrections for being a felon in possession of ammunition. The incident remains under investigation by local authorities.
