On December 1, 2019, a tragic incident occurred in Minneapolis, MN, resulting in the deaths of William David Schladetzky, 11, his younger brother Nelson Schladetzky, 8, and their mother, Kjersten Schladetzky, 39. The suspect in this case was identified as David Schladetzky, 53, the father of the two boys and the ex-husband of Kjersten. According to reports, David Schladetzky carried out a brutal attack on his family before taking his own life in what has been described as a triple
murder-suicide.
The incident began when David Schladetzky arrived at Kjersten's home in the Phillips Neighborhood of Minneapolis. He first shot his two sons, William and Nelson, multiple times in the front yard of the home. Despite the efforts of police officers who arrived at the scene and attempted to save the boys, both succumbed to their injuries. Kjersten Schladetzky was found inside the home, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds and a stab wound to the chest.
Following the initial shootings, David Schladetzky barricaded himself inside the house, leading to a standoff with police. SWAT team members and other officers set up a perimeter around the home and attempted to make contact with him. After several hours, police used a robot equipped with a camera to enter the home and assess the situation. They discovered that David Schladetzky had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Court documents revealed that David Schladetzky had filed for divorce from Kjersten approximately one year before the incident, and the divorce proceedings were finalized in the summer of 2019. Neighbors and friends described the Schladetzky children as 'full of life' and Kjersten as a devoted mother.
