In the early morning hours of November 5, 2020, the life of 21-year-old Mohamed Khadar Hayir, a Black male from Brooklyn Park, was tragically cut short in a south Minneapolis parking lot. The incident unfolded around 3 a.m. at a Speedway gas station located on the 2200 block of Lyndale Avenue South. What began as a dispute between Hayir and another individual, with whom he was acquainted, quickly escalated into fatal violence.
Responding officers found Hayir at the scene in grave
condition, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Hennepin Healthcare for emergency medical treatment but succumbed to his injuries shortly after his arrival at 3:38 a.m. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner later confirmed that the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds and ruled the manner of death as a homicide.
In the wake of the shooting, the suspect fled the scene, and despite the ongoing investigation by the Minneapolis Police Department, no arrests have been made in connection with Hayir's death. This case marked the 72nd homicide in Minneapolis for the year 2020. Authorities have urged anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward to assist in the investigation and help bring closure to the family of Mohamed Khadar Hayir.
