On the night of Friday, October 30, 2020, Deondra Redmon, a 38-year-old Black / African American man, was fatally shot in Minneapolis. The incident occurred around 10:10 p.m. in the 2000 block of West Broadway. Minneapolis Police responded to reports of gunfire in the area and upon arrival, they discovered Redmon on the ground with gunshot wounds.
Officers at the scene found that Redmon had no pulse and immediately began administering CPR.
Paramedics arrived shortly after and continued life-saving efforts, but unfortunately, Redmon was pronounced dead at the scene. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner later confirmed that he died from a gunshot wound to the chest and officially ruled his death a homicide.
According to preliminary investigations by the police, it is believed that Deondra Redmon and the person or people who shot him were acquainted. Evidence found at the scene suggested a prior connection between them. The suspect, or suspects, had fled the area before law enforcement arrived. Police conducted a search of the vicinity and spoke with potential witnesses to gather more information. As of the initial reports, no arrests had been made in connection with the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing.
