Major Connell Ivy, a 27-year-old Black man, was fatally shot in the early morning hours of July 16, 2015, after an argument erupted outside a home on the 2300 block of Thomas Avenue North in Minneapolis’ Willard-Hay neighborhood. Multiple 911 callers reported the dispute and shots fired around 2:30–2:40 a.m.; officers arrived to find Ivy mortally wounded and another man injured but expected to survive. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner determined that Ivy died of multiple gunshot wounds.
