Major Connell Ivy, a 27-year-old Black man, was fatally shot in the early morning hours of July 16, 2015, after an argument erupted outside a home on the 2300 block of Thomas Avenue North in Minneapolis’ Willard-Hay neighborhood. Multiple 911 callers reported the dispute and shots fired around 2:30–2:40 a.m.; officers arrived to find Ivy mortally wounded and another man injured but expected to survive. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner determined that Ivy died of multiple gunshot wounds.
The killing was one of two homicides on Minneapolis’ North Side within roughly seven hours that day, drawing heightened police presence to the area.
