In the summer of 2026, concern grew for a 78-year-old woman named Claudia Grandy from Portland, Oregon, after she was last seen by her son on July 26th. At the time of her disappearance, she was reportedly wearing black tight-like shorts, a darker blue t-shirt, and dark athletic shoes with a white sole. Family members reported that while she was physically fit, she had been experiencing cognitive decline. Compounding the urgency of her disappearance was the fact that she had left her cellphone at her home in the Montavilla neighborhood. This detail was particularly troubling as it eliminated a potential method for investigators to track her movements.

The search for Claudia took a significant turn on August 9, 2026, when her silver Nissan Rogue was discovered abandoned and stuck in a ditch in the rural landscape of Skamania County, Washington. This discovery shifted the focus of the search efforts to the expansive and often rugged terrain north of the Columbia River. The Skamania County Sheriff's Office promptly launched two separate search and rescue operations in the vicinity of where the vehicle was found. Despite their efforts, these searches did not yield any signs of Claudia. Authorities have stated that while there were no immediate signs of foul play, they were still actively seeking information from the public.

The discovery of her vehicle in a different state, combined with her cognitive condition and lack of a cellphone, created a complex and heart-wrenching situation for her family and investigators. The Portland Police Bureau, in collaboration with the Skamania County Sheriff's Office, has continued to appeal to the public for any information that might shed light on Claudia's whereabouts. The case remains a poignant reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by elderly individuals with cognitive impairments, and the profound impact such disappearances have on their loved ones and the wider community. The lack of resolution in her case leaves many unanswered questions and a lingering sense of hope for her safe return.
