In the Frogtown neighborhood of Saint Paul, Minnesota, on the evening of January 18, 2022, 31-year-old Kyle Quinn was found outside a residence on the 300 block of Blair Avenue with multiple gunshot wounds. The call came in around 5:30 p.m., and upon their arrival, emergency responders transported him to Regions Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
His death was recorded as the third homicide of the year in the city.
The investigation into the shooting led to the arrest of a suspect, 31-year-old Nick Tyler Okland of Saint Paul, who was taken into custody on the night of the incident on suspicion of murder. However, Okland was later released from the Ramsey County Jail after the 36-hour hold period expired without formal charges being filed by the Ramsey County attorney's office. Authorities stated that the investigation into the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting was ongoing.
Adding a layer of complexity to the tragic event, it was reported that there were other adults and children present inside the Blair Avenue residence at the time of the shooting. Furthermore, about two hours after the shooting, firefighters were dispatched to the same address to extinguish a small fire that had started in the basement of the home. The Quinn family had previously experienced another tragedy with the loss of another family member in a separate incident, compounding their grief as they awaited answers and justice for Kyle.
