On the night of January 4, 2015, the home where Jaquail lived with his mother and five siblings became the target of a drive-by shooting. Multiple bullets pierced the residence, one of them striking the infant as he was being held by his mother.
Rushed to the hospital, Jaquail fought for his life but succumbed to his injuries in the early morning hours of January 5, 2015. His mother also sustained a minor wound in the attack.
The news of the baby's death sent ripples of grief and outrage through the community. Family members remembered Jaquail as a happy and sweet baby who had just begun to get his first teeth. His grandmother recalled that he was always smiling and rarely cried.
