In the evening hours of August 5, 2018, a Sunday, the life of 27-year-old Vincent S. Trulson, a White male, was tragically cut short in the Armourdale neighborhood of Kansas City, Kansas. Responding to reports of a shooting at approximately 8:45 p.m., police discovered Trulson in the 500 block of South 12th Street with gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The Kansas City, Kansas Police Department's Criminal Investigations Unit promptly launched a homicide investigation into the violent incident that had unfolded.
The initial stages of the investigation did not yield immediate information about a suspect, and authorities appealed to the public for any information that could lead to an arrest. The call for community assistance proved fruitful, and the investigation progressed. On August 22, 2018, a significant development occurred in the case when Wyandotte County prosecutors filed charges against 61-year-old Samuel M. Beard in connection with Trulson's death.
Beard was charged with reckless second-degree murder for the fatal shooting of Vincent Trulson. In addition to the murder charge, he also faced two counts of aggravated intimidation of a witness, suggesting an attempt to interfere with the judicial process. Following the charges, Samuel M. Beard was taken into custody and held at the Wyandotte County Detention Center on a bond of $250,000.
