In the early hours of October 26, 2015, a 30-year-old male, Joel T. Solis-Robles, of Shawnee, Kansas, was found with a fatal gunshot wound in Kansas City, Kansas. The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. near the 1400 block of North 18th Street. Officers who arrived at the scene discovered Solis-Robles, who was then rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The initial investigation by the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department sought information from the public to piece together the events that led to the shooting.
The investigation led to the apprehension of two suspects, Ladarrious R. White, 24, and Kimberly C. Winn, 24, both from Kansas City, Kansas. Prosecutors charged both individuals with murder, attempted aggravated robbery, and conspiracy to commit robbery. White faced an additional charge for the criminal discharge of a firearm. The investigation revealed that the incident was not a random act of violence but a planned encounter that turned deadly. Solis-Robles had traveled to the location on North 18th Street after responding to an online advertisement for sexual services. The ad had been placed by Kimberly C. Winn, who was a companion of Ladarrious White.
In March 2016, the legal proceedings against the two suspects concluded with plea agreements. Ladarrious R. White pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree intentional murder for the shooting death of Solis-Robles. As part of the plea agreement, the charges of attempted aggravated robbery and conspiracy were dismissed. Kimberly C. Winn entered a plea of no contest to charges of aggravated battery and promoting the sale of sexual relations for her role in the events that led to the homicide. Both White and Winn were scheduled for sentencing in April 2016. The resolution of the case brought a measure of closure to the tragic and untimely death of Joel T. Solis-Robles.
