When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Gladney suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he died. His death marked the city's 22nd homicide of the year.
Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on December 29, 1987, Matthew was known as a laid-back person with a good heart who worked as a cook in the Topeka area. He found joy in spending time with his daughter, Winter, and pursued his passion for music by rapping with his uncle. His free time was often filled with video games, music, and the company of his family and friends. Those who knew him recall an infectious smile and a contagious laugh, and a deep love for his daughter and family.
