In the closing days of 2016, a life was abruptly cut short in Topeka, Kansas. Matthew Lamont Gladney, a 28-year-old Black / African American man, was fatally shot on the night of December 26th. Just before midnight, the sound of gunfire pierced the quiet of the 500 block of SW Clay Street, prompting calls to the Topeka Police Department.
