Jesus Noel Soto-Villareal, a 25-year-old male, was fatally shot in an incident that continues to leave his family and community searching for answers. Known to his loved ones as Noel, he was remembered for an infectious energy that could brighten an entire room.
Born in Dallas, Texas, he had a passion for collecting rocks of all sorts and sizes from a young age and also enjoyed playing baseball and soccer.
The events that led to his death began to unfold at approximately 5:30 p.m. when the sound of gunshots echoed in the area of Southeast 6th and Leland. Shortly after the shots were reported, Soto-Villareal arrived at Stormont-Vail Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced deceased at the hospital, marking the city's 25th homicide of the year.
