On a Tuesday night in Kansas City, Kansas, the life of 47-year-old Hispanic male Vincent Rocha was tragically cut short on May 9, 2017. He was a fun-loving and charismatic man, known for his easy-going nature and passion for life, often hosting karaoke and get-togethers that made everyone feel like family. That evening, however, his home in the 1900 block of South Boeke Street became a scene of immense violence.
Rocha was not the only victim.
He was fatally shot inside his house along with his 47-year-old wife, Bernadette Gosserand, and his 26-year-old son, Jeremy Rocha. In a harrowing detail, three young children, ranging in age from one to five, were present in the home at the time of the shootings but were physically unharmed. A fourth adult, Gosserand's son, was also shot but survived his injuries. It was this surviving victim who managed to escape and alert a neighbor, who then called for help.
The investigation swiftly led police to a suspect, 28-year-old Jason R. Tucker, who was arrested later that same night. The motive for the brutal slayings was connected to an ongoing dispute between Tucker and the surviving victim, who had previously sought a protection order against him. On the night of the murders, Tucker confronted the man on the front porch, striking him with a shotgun before shooting him. Tucker then proceeded to enter the home and kill the three unsuspecting family members.
In the days following the triple homicide, Jason Tucker was charged with capital murder, attempted capital murder, attempted burglary, and violation of a protection order. In February 2018, to avoid a potential death sentence, Tucker pleaded guilty to capital murder. Two months later, in April 2018, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, bringing a legal conclusion to the tragic and violent end of Vincent Rocha and his loved ones.
