On the evening of September 8, 2017, John DeAngelo Calata, a 31-year-old Black/African American man, was fatally shot in Kansas City, Kansas. The incident occurred around 6:40 p.m. in the 4100 block of Adams Street, near the University of Kansas Medical Center. Calata was a passenger in a car with his brother at the wheel when gunfire erupted. In a second car, his other brother, Jeremy Calata, witnessed two gunmen emerge from a porch and open fire on the vehicles.
