In the winter of 2014, the life of James Daniel Dean, a 48-year-old Caucasian male, came to a tragic end in his Hollywood, Maryland, home. On the night of January 9th, events unfolded that would leave one person dead and another seriously injured, prompting an investigation into what authorities have described as a possible attempted murder-suicide.
Shortly before midnight, a distress call was made to the St. Mary's County Emergency Communications Center from Angela Dean, James's wife.
During the brief 911 call, she reported that she and her husband had been arguing and that he was in the process of loading a gun. The gravity of the situation escalated quickly as audible gunshots were heard in the background of the call, which lasted less than a minute.
Maryland State Police troopers were dispatched to the residence on Johnson Road. Upon their arrival, they were forced to make entry into the home. Inside, they discovered a grim scene. James Daniel Dean was found on the living room floor with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
Nearby, Angela Dean was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was transported to the Prince George's Hospital Trauma Unit for treatment of her injuries. The preliminary investigation led authorities to believe that James Daniel Dean shot his wife before turning the gun on himself. His body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy. In this case, the sole suspect in the shooting of Angela Dean was the deceased, James Daniel Dean.
