On the afternoon of December 9, 2019, police in Kansas City, Kansas, were called to a home in the 2200 block of Franklin Avenue. The call, which came in around 4:30 p.m., was for an unresponsive male. Inside the residence, officers discovered 19-year-old Angelo M. Ramirez, a White/Caucasian male who was pronounced dead at the scene. The Kansas City, Kansas Police Department’s Major Case Unit immediately launched a homicide investigation.
As detectives pieced together a timeline, they
determined the fatal incident occurred several hours before Angelo was found. At approximately 12:30 p.m., surveillance video captured a suspect’s vehicle, a white, four-door Chevrolet Cobalt, driving past the Ramirez home at 2230 Franklin Ave. The car, which was missing its rear passenger-side hubcap, then returned and parked in front of the residence.
Video footage later showed a suspect exiting the home after Angelo was shot. The suspect, described as a white or Hispanic male with a slender build wearing a black shirt and black pants, was seen running from the residence. He got into the waiting Chevy Cobalt, which was being driven by an unknown individual. The car then fled the scene, traveling eastbound on Franklin Avenue.
One year after the killing, on December 9, 2020, detectives with the KCKPD made a renewed plea to the public for help. They released the video clips of the suspect and the getaway car, hoping someone would recognize the individual or the vehicle and come forward with information that could lead to an arrest. Investigators believe someone has knowledge that could bring justice for the Ramirez family.
As of December 2020, the murder of Angelo Ramirez remains unsolved. A cash reward of up to $25,000 is available for any information that leads to charges in the case.
