Sharnia Martez “Marty” Robinson, a 42-year-old Black male, was shot on May 27, 2020, in the parking lot of the Regency Inn located near 47th Street and State Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Robinson with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and succumbed to his injuries the following day, on May 28, 2020.
Robinson was a resident of Overland Park, Kansas.
The man suspected of the shooting was identified as 38-year-old Matthew R. Walker. After allegedly shooting Robinson, Walker fled the scene by forcing a woman to drive him away at gunpoint. This woman was later found unharmed. Walker was apprehended by authorities without incident.
Initially, Matthew R. Walker was charged with aggravated battery and aggravated kidnapping. Following Robinson's death, the aggravated battery charge was upgraded to second-degree murder. Walker also faced charges of aggravated kidnapping and aggravated intimidation of a witness or victim.
Those who knew Sharnia Robinson remembered him as a loving and caring individual who had a significant positive influence on the people around him. He had a passion for music and was known to have written lyrics for many songs. He was also remembered for his unwavering support of his friends and family. Funeral services were held for him on June 6, 2020, at Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ, with his burial taking place at XII Gates Memorial Gardens.
