Steven Peoples Sr., a 49-year-old Black man, was killed on the morning of September 13, 2020, in Kansas City, Kansas, in a stretch of downtown where weekend quiet can be shattered in an instant. Just before 10 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of Central Avenue after a report of gunfire, and they arrived to find Peoples dead at the scene from an apparent gunshot wound.
