In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Kansas City, Kansas, the life of a young Black man, Melvin James Jr., was tragically cut short. At the age of 25, Melvin was a victim of gun violence on August 18, 2019. The shooting, which also left another man critically injured, unfolded shortly before 1 a.m. at the Forest Glen Estates Town Homes and Apartments, located in the 400 block of North 64th Terrace.
