In the early morning hours of January 11, 2021, the life of 39-year-old Jose Adelaydo Gonzalez was tragically cut short in his Garden City, Kansas home. A small gathering at his residence on North 9th Street took a violent turn, ending in his untimely death. Gonzalez, a man known in the professional boxing world as “El Cuervo,” was a graduate of Garden City High School and was most recently employed at Tyson.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene just after 3:00 a.m.
to find an unresponsive male with a head injury. Upon their arrival, first responders discovered that Gonzalez was not breathing and had also sustained a gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to St. Catherine Hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a physical altercation had occurred during the gathering at Gonzalez's home, which ultimately led to the shooting. The individual believed to be responsible fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. In the days that followed, the Garden City Police Department actively sought help from the public to locate a person of interest.
Their investigation led them to identify 40-year-old Moses Joel Guerrero as the suspect. A warrant was issued for his arrest on a charge of first-degree murder. On January 15, 2021, authorities successfully located and arrested Guerrero. At the time of the incident, Guerrero had a criminal history that included prior convictions for aggravated burglary, aggravated assault, and aggravated battery.
