Jesus Hector Flores, a 36-year-old Hispanic male, tragically lost his life on February 13, 2022, in Garden City, Kansas. Known to his loved ones as "Tito" or "Chito," he was a married father of six who was remembered for his gregarious personality and a smile that could light up a room. Born in Dodge City, Kansas, he had spent time living in Maui, Hawaii, before returning to Kansas, where he earned a welding certificate from Garden City Community College.
His life was characterized by a devotion to his family and a willingness to help anyone in need.
The events that led to his untimely death unfolded on a Sunday morning. At approximately 10:25 a.m., officers from the Garden City Police Department were dispatched to the 800 block of North 5th Street following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Jesus Hector Flores suffering from a gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to St. Catherine Hospital for emergency medical treatment, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The subsequent investigation into the shooting quickly identified two individuals as being involved. Alexander Goetting, who was 18 at the time, and 28-year-old Dalton Pister, both from Garden City, were named as suspects. The investigation revealed that the shooting occurred during the commission of an aggravated robbery. Law enforcement was able to locate and apprehend both men. Goetting was taken into custody in Garden City, while Pister was found and arrested in Scott City with the assistance of local law enforcement agencies.
Following their arrests, both men faced serious charges in connection with the death of Jesus Hector Flores. Alexander Goetting was ultimately convicted of second-degree murder, aggravated robbery, and various weapons violations. He was sentenced to just over 41 years in the Kansas Department of Corrections. Dalton Pister was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and aggravated robbery, receiving a sentence of just over 17 years in prison. Both men are also required to register as violent offenders.
