In the early morning hours of October 1, 2021, the life of Tyrelle Baker, a 40-year-old Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in his Kansas City, Kansas community. At approximately 7:30 a.m., officers from the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department responded to a call regarding a shooting in the 2100 block of North 33rd Street. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mr.
Baker, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A neighbor recounted being awakened by the sound of two gunshots, followed by the distinct noise of cars speeding away from the area, shattering the morning's quiet. This neighbor also noted that Mr. Baker had only resided at the location for a few months and generally kept to himself. The investigation into the homicide was promptly taken over by the police department's Major Case Unit.
