A Black / African American male, Jones was a passenger in a black Camaro that became the target of a rolling shooting near the Interstate 670 interchange.
The incident unfolded as shots were fired from another vehicle, striking Jones and another occupant of the Camaro.

After the shooting, the vehicle was last seen heading eastbound on Interstate 670, crossing into Missouri. Despite these details, no arrests have been made in connection with the death of Deonta Jones, and the individuals responsible remain at large. The police have continued to appeal to the public for any information that might lead to an arrest in the ongoing investigation.
