Laron Briggs, a 25-year-old Black man, was working at a Pizza Hut on the evening of January 28, 2020, in Kansas City, Kansas. Just after 10:30 p.m., police were dispatched to the restaurant located in the 4300 block of Rainbow Boulevard in response to a shooting. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Briggs inside suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel were unable to save him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident was the third homicide in Kansas
City, Kansas, that year. Investigators began working the case, and their efforts led to the identification of two suspects. In the weeks following the shooting, police arrested Lacricia Leak-Myers and Gary A. Winters. Both individuals were subsequently charged by Wyandotte County prosecutors with first-degree murder and attempted aggravated robbery in connection with Laron Briggs's death.
Laron was born on March 8, 1994, and was a graduate of Ruskin High School's class of 2012. He was described as a hardworking individual who held a full-time job at Williamson in addition to his part-time position at Pizza Hut. He was known for his love of sports, video games, and spending time with his family. Those who knew him remembered his penchant for cracking jokes and making people laugh.
