In the late afternoon of August 3, 2017, Derrick Horton, a 39-year-old Black / African American male, was fatally shot in Kansas City, Kansas. The incident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. in the 1900 block of North 63rd Street. Horton, a well-regarded local business owner, was the proprietor of Charlie D's Catfish & More to Go, a restaurant located about a third of a mile from where the shooting took place. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his abdomen and legs.
