In the winter of 2021, the life of a Hispanic/Latino male, 16-year-old Carlos Ambriz-Garcia, was tragically cut short on the evening of December 22nd in Kansas City, Kansas. A sophomore at Wyandotte High School with a passion for cars and dreams of becoming an engineer, Carlos was known as a loving and protective son and brother. He often acted as a father figure to his younger siblings, even making breakfast for his 9-year-old brother in the mornings.
On that fatal night, near N.
27th Street and Parallel Parkway, Carlos and a friend were attempting to purchase a gun from four individuals in a black car. The transaction turned into a robbery, and Carlos was shot. His mother, Amapola Garcia, was nearby, intending to bring him food. She did not hear the gunshots but was alerted and found her son on the ground. Despite her desperate efforts to perform CPR and apply pressure to his wounds, Carlos died in her arms.
The individuals in the black car fled the scene, and as of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Carlos Ambriz-Garcia. The case remains cold, leaving his family searching for answers and justice. Police have expressed a desire to speak with Hector Figueroa, the friend who was with Carlos at the time of the shooting. A reward of up to $7,000 is being offered for any information that leads to an arrest in the case. His family continues to mourn their loss, remembering a young man who was a "big loving teddy bear" and who, in his last moments, may have tried to protect his family from the violence that ultimately took his life.
