On the evening of May 1, 2022, a dispute in a south Wichita neighborhood escalated into a fatal encounter for 25-year-old Vincent White, a Caucasian male. The incident, which unfolded around 9:15 p.m. in the 3000 block of South Elizabeth, began as a verbal altercation between White and a relative.
As the argument intensified, the relative sought help from a 39-year-old male neighbor.
According to the initial police investigation, the situation took a tragic turn when White reportedly charged at his relative and the neighbor. In response, the neighbor drew a firearm and shot White. When Wichita Police Department officers arrived at the scene following a disturbance call, they found White in front of a residence, unconscious and not breathing. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Wichita Police Department investigated the shooting and, as is standard procedure, planned to present the findings of their investigation to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.
