On June 21, 2014, at approximately 2:23 AM, police officers responded to a call for a shooting near the intersection of Fuller Street and Mozart Place, NW, Washington, DC. Upon arrival, they located 27-year-old Luis Avila-Melendez in the 1600 block of Columbia Road, NW, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
