In the winter of 2016, a single act of violence marked a grim beginning for Washington, D.C., as it recorded its first homicide of the year. On the evening of Friday, January 8th, in the 3700 block of Hayes Street, Northeast, gunshots shattered the night, leaving a family devastated and a community searching for answers.
