On May 5, 2012, Adan Fabian Perez, a 48-year-old Guatemalan man working as a groom at Churchill Downs, was found dead in one of the barns at the racetrack the morning after the Kentucky Derby. His body was discovered near Barn 8, and authorities quickly determined that his death was a homicide based on evidence of injuries.
