In the early afternoon hours of a Sunday in late October, the area around Nationals Park in Southeast Washington, D.C., was filled with the usual weekend activity. Patrons of the local sports bars and restaurants were suddenly sent scrambling for cover just before 1 p.m. by the sound of multiple gunshots. An off-duty police officer in the vicinity of Half and N Streets, Southeast, heard the gunfire and authorities were alerted to the scene.

block of N Street, Southeast, where they discovered a man inside a vehicle who had been shot. The man was identified as 31-year-old Kevaughn Washington, a resident of Oxon Hill, Maryland. Emergency medical services arrived at the location, but found that Washington showed no signs of life. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch began their investigation, suggesting that Washington was likely the intended target of the attack. Security camera footage from the area provided a potential lead, showing a dark-colored SUV speeding away from the location immediately following the shooting. Despite this, no immediate arrests were made in connection with the homicide.
The investigation into Kevaughn Washington's death remains active and ongoing. The Metropolitan Police Department has offered a substantial reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the fatal shooting. As of now, the case remains unsolved, and authorities continue to ask the public for assistance.
