Jawaid Bhutto, a 64-year-old Pakistani philosopher and intellectual, was killed on March 1, 2019, in a violent encounter in his Southeast Washington, D.C. neighborhood. The events of that day unfolded around 11 a.m. in the 2600 block of Wade Road, when police responded to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Bhutto suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for life-threatening injuries but, despite all efforts, was pronounced dead.
