On the evening of May 9, 2018, D'Quan Young, a 24-year-old man from Washington, D.C., was shot and killed by an off-duty police officer near the Brentwood Recreation Center in Northeast D.C. Witnesses reported that the officer, who was not in uniform, drove past the area several times before parking his car and approaching Young with a black baseball cap worn backwards.
