On an August evening in 2020, the life of 18-year-old Montrell Lucas was tragically cut short by gunfire in Washington, D.C. A male, he was discovered inside an apartment on the 1600 block of Maryland Avenue, Northeast, on Tuesday, August 4th, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
Responding to reports of a shooting at approximately 8:46 p.m., Metropolitan Police Department officers arrived at the Carver-Langston neighborhood residence to find a grim scene.
Inside the apartment building, they located three victims. Montrell Lucas was found deceased inside one of the units. In a hallway of the same building, another man, later identified as 28-year-old Jakeem Chandler, was found with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. A third victim, a juvenile male, was also found at the scene with a gunshot wound and was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation into the double homicide was launched by the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch. Authorities announced a reward of up to $25,000 for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the shooting. However, to date, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests made or suspects identified in connection with the deaths of Montrell Lucas and Jakeem Chandler. The case remains an open investigation.
