On the night of Monday, October 16, 2023, gunshots echoed through the 1400 block of C Street, Northeast in Washington, D.C., leaving a community in mourning. When First District officers arrived at the scene around 10:19 p.m., they discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the men, identified as 29-year-old Cahli Thomas of Northeast, DC, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The second man was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
