On the night of Monday, October 16, 2023, gunshots echoed through the 1400 block of C Street, Northeast in Washington, D.C., leaving a community in mourning. When First District officers arrived at the scene around 10:19 p.m., they discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the men, identified as 29-year-old Cahli Thomas of Northeast, DC, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The second man was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Cahli Thomas, a resident of the city, was remembered as a loving father and son who was deeply involved in his community. He was a valued employee of the Department of Energy and Environment, where he actively supported local high school students. His sudden and violent death has left his family and all who knew him devastated.
The Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch is leading the investigation into this fatal shooting. As of now, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the case. The investigation remains active and ongoing. In an effort to bring those responsible to justice, the police are offering a substantial reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons involved in the murder of Cahli Thomas. Detectives are urging anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward and assist in their investigation.
