A short time later, a 20-year-old male named Jahmeze Williams arrived at a local hospital. He was suffering from a gunshot wound sustained in the incident on North Capitol Street. Despite the efforts of medical staff, his injuries were too severe, and he succumbed to them at the hospital. Williams was a resident of Southeast, D.C.
At the time of his death, he was known to be a participant in the city's 'People of Promise' initiative, a program designed to support individuals considered to be at high risk of either committing or becoming victims of violent crime.
