In the late hours of a Tuesday night in Washington, D.C., the sound of gunshots echoed through the 1200 block of North Capitol Street, Northwest. It was approximately 10:01 p.m. on May 24, 2022, when officers from the Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered evidence of a shooting but found no victim. The area, located in the Sursum Corda neighborhood of Northeast D.C., held the immediate aftermath of a violent encounter that would soon prove fatal.
