In the late afternoon of Monday, February 29, 2016, a burst of violence shattered the day in the 2700 block of Langston Place SE in Washington, D.C. Twenty-one-year-old Adam Edwin Barker, a Black male, was shot at approximately 4:19 p.m. First responders found him with grave injuries and rushed him to a local hospital. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his wounds the following day, March 1, 2016.
The Metropolitan Police Department quickly launched a homicide
investigation, appealing to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of those responsible for Barker's death. Their investigative efforts led to a significant development in the case. Paul Swann, a 24-year-old man, was arrested and subsequently charged with second-degree murder while armed in connection with the fatal shooting.
Further legal proceedings unfolded, revealing that another individual, Traveous Brown, was also charged in connection with Barker's murder. The case moved through the court system, with proceedings that included a mistrial and eventually a guilty plea.
