In the early morning hours of June 14, 2016, violence shattered the relative quiet of the Columbia Heights neighborhood in Northwest Washington, D.C. At approximately 6:30 a.m., police responded to a report of a shooting inside a residence in the 2900 block of 14th Street, NW. Upon arrival, officers discovered a young man suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was identified as 20-year-old Devonte Crawford, a Black male.
