In the early morning hours of Saturday, January 18, 2025, the life of 21-year-old Raymont Owens, a male resident of Southeast, D.C., was tragically cut short. At approximately 9:27 a.m., officers from the Metropolitan Police Department's Seventh District were dispatched to an apartment in the 1300 block of Congress Street, Southeast, following reports of a shooting. Inside the apartment, they discovered Owens suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical personnel from DC Fire and EMS arrived at the scene, but their efforts were in vain. Owens showed no signs of life and was pronounced dead at the location. The African American man's death has since been ruled a homicide, prompting an extensive investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department. The violent nature of his death sent ripples through the Southeast D.C.
community, leaving residents and community leaders shaken and calling for justice.
As of now, the investigation into Raymont Owens's murder is ongoing, and no arrests have been made in the case. Police have not publicly identified any suspects in connection with the fatal shooting. In an effort to generate leads, the Metropolitan Police Department is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this crime. Authorities are urging anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation.
