On the evening of Saturday, October 30, 2021, in the 1800 block of Gainesville Street in Southeast Washington, D.C., a burst of violence shattered the night. Cecil Morris, a 28-year-old male, was discovered with gunshot wounds around 7:43 p.m. Emergency services were promptly dispatched, and he was rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.
For two days, Morris fought for his life, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries on Monday, November 1, 2021.
Following his death, the Metropolitan Police Department officially classified the case as a homicide. Detectives from the Homicide Branch were assigned to unravel the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting. At the time of the incident, official reports indicated that Cecil Morris had no fixed address.
The investigation into his murder was launched, with authorities seeking assistance from the public.
