In the late hours of a cold winter night in the nation's capital, the life of a young man was tragically cut short. On January 28, 2021, Aaron Bourne, a 26-year-old Black male from Woodbridge, Virginia, was fatally shot in the 1300 block of Morris Road, Southeast, Washington, D.C. The Metropolitan Police Department's Seventh District officers responded to the area at approximately 11:44 p.m.
after receiving reports of the sound of gunshots.
Upon their arrival at the scene, officers discovered Bourne inside a residential building, suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical services were dispatched to the location, but upon assessing his condition, they found no signs consistent with life. Aaron Bourne was pronounced dead at the scene, his life taken in an act of violence that would soon launch a homicide investigation. Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch immediately began to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting.
The investigation into Bourne's death continued for several months. Law enforcement officials sought assistance from the public, offering a substantial reward for any information that would lead to an arrest and conviction in the case. On May 27, 2021, the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested a suspect in connection with the murder. The individual taken into custody was a 15-year-old juvenile male from Southeast, D.C. He was charged with Felony Murder under a DC Superior Court custody order, bringing a measure of resolution to the investigation into the untimely and violent death of Aaron Bourne.
